Why is S&T important?

[unordered_list style=”bullet”]

  • In the heyday of Islam, Muslim lead in education, science, and research and was militarily and economically superior
  • Innovation contributes to the status of a developed nation, help a nation progress and achieve prosperity, and a high income economy
  • Innovation can bring rapid development and prosperity even for small countries without natural resources like Korea
  • S&T has an importance in Universities, Schools, Industry, Labour workforce, and for the people in general.
  • Being a good example of an excellent scientist can be an effective means of da’wah

The Way Forward

  1. We must return to the teaching of Islam

    Surah AL-A’raf :76

    Surah Al-A'raf:76

If the people of the towns had but believed and feared Allah We should indeed have opened out to them (all kinds of) blessings from heaven and earth; but they rejected (the truth) and We brought them to book for their misdeeds.

  2. Islam emphasizes the importance of knowledge and education as expressed in the first Qur’anic verse revealed – seek knowledge in the name of Allah

    Surah AL-Alaq :1

    Surah Al-Alaq: 1

Proclaim! (or Read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher Who created

  3. Seek wisdom wherever you can find it. Seek it, and act upon it so that you and the ummah may benefit.

    Prophet have said;

    Hadith At-Tirmidhi: 1

“Wisdom is like a precious commodity that is lost. A believer must always be in search of it. Wherever he finds it, he must act upon what it dictates.” (Narrated by Tirmidhi)

  4. Enjoinment of Waqf/Endowment for R&D and education

    Surah Al-Baqarah 2:261

    Surah Al-Baqarah

The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing

  • Collaboration with researchers from the Islamic countries and with others – to improve the quality of life and help the disadvantaged
  • Share expertise , R&D expenditure – revive the spirit and the legacy of Muslim scholars
  • Practice volunteerism in order to help the unfortunate in education
  • Persuade the government to invest more on S&T
  • Persuade more students especially the youngsters to take up S&T
  • It is the duty of the Muslim scientists to contribute for well being of the people, the environment and the creations
