Selamat Hari Raya – Eid Mubarak

Selamat Hari Raya – Eid Mubarak to all..

May Ramadhan be the defining moment for our transformation to At-Taqwa, and May Allah make it easy for us to practice As-Sunnah and all those ‘amal that we effortlessly perform during Ramadhan, in every aspect of our life.

With pleasure, may I share the 10 Sunnahs of Eidul Fitri as a reminder and as guide for us to immediately practice during the coming Eid.

1. Bergembira dan tidak bersedih (to be happy and cheerful)

From the hadith ar Rasul saw.. “..To show happiness and to look great berhias (within the limits of syara’) during Eidul Fithri is a syiar..” Therefore, follow the sunnah by being happy and showing happiness, and not bid’ah, that is, by showing sadness and sorrow!

2. Berhias (to look great)

Ibnul Qayyim said in “Zadul Ma’ad” (1/441):

The Prophet s.a.w. put on the best attire to go out (and perform prayer) during Eidul Fithri and Eidul Adha…

3. Solat Eid (di tanah lapang) (Performing Eid Prayer (especially in open/large space))

Narrated by Abu Said Al Khudri Radhiallahu ‘anhu, who said,

The Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam used to go to the mushalla (open space) during Eidul Fitri and Eidul Adha, and the first thing we did was to perform prayer…” [Hadith by Bukhari (956), Muslim (889) and An-Nasaa’i 3/187]

4. Makan sedikit sebelum Solat Eid (Having a light breakfast before Eid prayer)

From Anas Radliallahu anhu, who said:

Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam did not leave for prayer during Eidul Fithri until he mate a few dates”. [Hadith by Riwayat Bukhari 953, Tirmidzi 543, Ibnu Majah 1754 and Ahmad 3/125, 164, 232]

5. Mandi sebelum Solat Eid (Bathing before Eid prayer)

From Nafi’ who said:

Abdullah Ibn Umar usually took a bath during Eidul Fithri before going to the mushalla, and to an open space when it did not rain)” (Narrated by Malik 1/177, Asy-Syafi’i 73 and Abdurrazzaq 5754 with a sanad that is Shahih).

6. Tidak solat sunnah qabliyah, ba’diyah; tidak azan dan iqamah untuk solat eid (No sunnah prayer before or after Eid prayer and no adzan and iqomah)

From Ibnu Abbas Radhiyallahu ‘anhuma, who said:

Prophet Shallallahu’alaihi wa sallam performed two raka’ah on Idul Fithri. He neither prayed nawafil before, nor after….” [Hadith by Bukhari 989, At-Tirmidzi 537, An-Nasa’i 3/193 and Ibnu Majah 1291]

From Jabir Ibn Samurah Radhiyallahu ‘anhu who said:

I used to perform Eid prayer with Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam

more than once.  There was neither adzhan nor iqamah” [Hadith by Muslim 887, Abu Daud 1148 dan Tirmidzi 532].

7. Khutbah selepas solat eid (Khutbah after Eid prayer)

From Ibnu Abbas Radhiyallahu ‘anhuma, who said:

I performed the Eid prayer with Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, Abu Bakar, Umar dan Utsman Radhiyallahu’anhum. All of them performed solah before khutba” [Hadith by Bukhari 963, Muslim 884 and Ahmad 1/331 dan 346]

8. Pergi dan pulang musolla melalui jalan berlainan (Taking different routes to and from musolla)

Narrated by Jabir bin Abdillah Radliallahu ‘anhu, wo said, “Prophet Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam on Eid usually took different routes (when going to, and leaving the mushalla)” [Hadith by Bukhari 986].

9. Takbir ketika keluar dari rumah menuju ke musolla sehingga imam tiba (Takbeer when leaving for musolla until the imam arrives)

Ibnu Umar when leaving the house during Idhul Fithri dan Idhul Adha, he loudly recited takbir until he reached the mushalla, and continued until the imam arrived. (Narrated by Ad Daraquthni and Ibnu Abi Syaibah and others, with a sanad that is shahih. See Irwa ‘ul Ghalil 650).

10. Ucapan Rasulullah selepas solat Raya (The Prophet’s greetings after Eid prayer)

Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr Al-Asqalani (rahimahullah) said:

“We have related in “Mahaamiliyaat” with a chain of narration that is hasan, from Jabyr ibn Nufayr who said: ‘When the companions of Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w) met on the day of ‘Eid, they would say to each other, ‘Taqaballahu minna wa minkum (may Allah accept from you and us ).”

 تَقَبَّلَ اللّهُ مِنَّ وَ مِنْكُمْ (taqabalallahu minna wa minkum)

[Al Mahamiliyyat; hasan isnad; see Fath ul Bari 2:446]

A common dua recited during Eid, and during the beginning of Hijrah is “Kullu ‘Am Wa antum Bi Khair”  (meaning: Wishing you the blessings throughout the year) is a good dua, but could not be associated with any hadith.  The same goes to “Minal Aidin Wal Faidzin” (meaning: May we be among those who returned (to fitrah) and achieved success”)
