PROF DR ZAINUDDIN ABDUL MANAN

PERINTIS President, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM)
Professor Dr Zainuddin Abdul Manan is the founding President of Persatuan Saintis Muslim Malaysia (PERINTIS). He is a life member of Pertubuhan IKRAM Malaysia (IKRAM). He served in various key positions in Jamaah Islah Malaysia (JIM) – as the vice President of JIM Akademia, TYDP of JIM Johor Bharu as well as of JIM Pasir Gudang. He was also in the human resource development (HRD) committee of JIM Johor.
Zain is a Professor of Chemical Engineering, the Founding Director of UTM-Process Systems Engineering Centre (PROSPECT) and currently the Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). He holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston, USA, MSc in Process Integration from UMIST, UK, and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.

Zain began his career an engineer in PETRONAS and Hume Industries. Since then, he has been extensively involved as a researcher, consultant and trainer for more than 20 years. During this period, he has completed over 70 R & D & consultancy projects, filed for ten patents and has more than 280 publications in books, 120 refereed journals and 150 conference papers on sustainable systems planning and with emphasis on energy and resource sustainability (Google H-Index 20, Scival:17, Citations:1433).
Zain has recently been awarded as one of the Top Research Scientists of Malaysia by the Academy Sciences of Malaysia, and was the winner of Saudi Arabia’s 2008 Prince Sultan Abdul Aziz International Award for Water. He is a Fellow IChemE, a chartered engineer, a certified energy manager and currently the certified lead trainer for Malaysia energy managers accreditation. He was the vice-chairman of the Board of Judges for the Association of South East Asia Nations (ASEAN) Energy Awards program until 2011. He is the UTM consultant/advisor responsible for spearheading the implementation of Sustainable Energy Management in UTM that led UTM to achieve RM 6.1 million energy savings between 2010 and 2013, and ultimately, to win the ASEAN Energy Award (Large Category Buildings).

CEO ICMIC Abd Rashid Munir is the founder and also the President and Chief Executive Officer of ICmic. Today he advises and focuses in the development of the various products in the company. He has started his career in Motorola (M) Sdn Bhd and engaged in various integrated circuit engineering and management positions and spent 11 years of employment with Motorola in Malaysia. At Motorola, he has headed Motorola’s Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) operations in Kuala Lumpur at the age of 36. The operations involved product, equipment, process, manufacturing and quality assurance (QA) engineering. His technical skills and management capability is reflected by several achievements including when he was recognized for his contributions and was awarded the Technical Excellence Award by Motorola in 1991, his involvement in various international business negotiations, joint ventures, equipment procurement agreement and costing, management of the Dynamic RAM IC Manufacturing Operations, setting-up Motorola Smart Card Business Unit in Malaysia and as a representative of Motorola in setting-up of a consortium joint venture with other companies to bid in one of Malaysia’s MSC projects. Abd Rashid Munir left Motorola to set-up his own company that has expanded today as ICmic. He has also been consultant to MIMOS Berhad as the Director of Technology and Business Development for the MIMOS’ semiconductor set-up, has contributed to the setting-up of a joint venture company between MIMOS and ISSI (Integrated Semiconductor Solutions, Inc., USA) known as Malaysia Microelectronics Solutions Sdn Bhd.

In ICmic, Abd Rashid Munir has successfully set-up ICmic with primarily as a mixed-signals IC Design Company and has today delivered more than 100’s of ICs in various forms and shipped more than 1 million unit of ICs for various application in telecommunications, process control, instrumentations etc. ICmic has also attracted international investor into the company. The company has worldwide distribution and customer base. ICmic has some of the finest employees in engineering, finance and business.

BAHRUL MAZI EDRAK

Education Malaysia & My Community, Ministry of Education Bahrulmazi Edrak is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Business and Management, Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU). Having obtained a first degree in Economics from the International Islamic University Malaysia (1995) and a MBA from Multimedia University of Malaysia (2009), his areas of study are in MIS and policy study. With 15 years of corporate experience in economics, marketing and administration, he has dedicated his teaching and writings in the area of e-business, e-marketing/marketing, entrepreneurship, social responsibility and international law.

Bahrulmazi Edrak is currently pursuing his PhD at the National Defence University of Malaysia in the area of Networked Terrorism and ASEAN Policy and also engages with several research projects at GERIC, UMK. He has recently joined MyCommunity cluster upon the invitation by Malaysian Ministry of Education to drive Ministry of Education Malaysia Strategic Plan 2 Malaysia Global Reach: New Dimension. He is also entrusted by Institut Penyelidikan Pengajian Tinggi Negara (IPPTN) to carry research activities at Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Vietnam in the area of community public health and Madrasah. His commitment in engaging with members of rural communities helps him to develop programs at Palestine, Aceh, South Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Cambodia and many others.

He is an advisor to KDM Malaysia, a civil association that aims in elevating the education level of Sabahans in certain areas of the state. Besides, due to his passion in the global issues of the third world countries, he has co-founded Nahel Mandiri Initiative, an organisation that aims to help in bridging the needs of marginalised communities to the government.
