PROF. DATUK IR DR. MOHD SALEH JAAFAR
Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation UPM
Saleh grew up in Kg. Kandang, Melaka and attended Sekolah Keb. Kandang, Sekolah Tun Mutahir and Sek. Menengah Munshi Abdullah, Melaka. He has 19 siblings and difficult to track number of nieces and nephews. He went on to complete his BSc. (Michigan State University – 1985), MSc (Univ. of Michigan, Ann Arbor – 1988) and PhD (Sheffield – 1998), all funded through Malaysian government.
Saleh is now a Professor of Civil Engineering in Universiti Putra Malaysia. He has been in academic leadership roles in UPM as head of department (1999-2006), Deputy Dean (2006-07), Dean (2007-2010). He has been UPM DVC for Research and Innovation since January 2011. He is a visiting professor for the Center of Excellence for Concrete Research and Testing, King Saud University and he was awarded D.S.I.S in 2011.
Saleh has professional involvement through the Institution of Engineers Malaysia and Board of Engineers, Malaysia. He was heavily involved in matters related engineering education and served as Associate Director for Engineering Accreditation Department for four years. He is now a national coordinator for Asean European University Network (ASEA-UNINET) and Board Member for Eurasian Silk Roads University Consortium (ESRUC).
PROF. IR. DR. JAILANI SALIHON
Dean Faculty of Chemical and Natural Resources Engineering UMP
Prof Ir Dr Jailani Salihon was born in Rengit, Johor. He is married to Dr Azma Mahmood and they have 9 children (6 boys and 3 girls).
He graduated with BSc (Hons) in Chemical Engineering in 1980 from Loughborough University, and completed his PhD in Biochemical Engineering in 1984 at University of Surrey.
He is currently the Dean of Faculty of Chemical & Natural Resources Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Pahang. He taught at Dept of Chemical and Process Engineering, UKM from 1984 to 1996 and then left the public university to start Kolej Uniti at Port Dickson under the company Eden Capital Sdn Bhd. In 2006 he rejoined public university at Universiti Malaysia Pahang where he served as Dean of the Research Management Centre for 4 years, followed by the present appointment.
His professional practice is in Quantitative Risk Analysis and his research interest is in the field of Process Biotechnology.
As part of his community service, he has served as Chairman of the Board of Governors of al-Amin Islamic Primary School, Serdang, and as a member of the Board of Governors of Sri al-Amin School, Bangi. He has also served as Director of Khalifah Bestari Sdn Bhd, the company that owns Khalifah Bestari Islamic Kindergarten, Bangi and as Director of Kumpulan Serdang Bangi Sdn Bhd, the company that owns Sri al-Amin School, Bangi.
Additionally, he has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees of SRI SMI Bhd, a company limited by guarantee and not having share capital, that supports the al-Amin schools network in curriculum development, teaching aids development, assessment, and teachers training. Prior to that he has served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Yayasan UNITI, the foundation that awards scholarships to deserving students at both tertiary and secondary levels of education.
He has also participated in activities of NGOs, and has held various posts in Jamaah Islah Malaysia (JIM), Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (Ikram) and Persatuan Saintis Islam Malaysia (Perintis).
PROF. IR DR. MOHD AZRAAI KASSIM
Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation UTM
Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd. Azraai Kassim holds a PhD degree in Environmental Engineering from University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK. He is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, Fellow of Institution of Engineers Malaysia and has over 28 years of academic, administrative and industrial working experience.
